Biography
Son the Gifted is the stage name of Terrell Dwayne Batson — a rapper, minister, youth pastor, and teacher from San Francisco’s Bayview–Hunters Point district, and a co-founder of Lyrical Opposition.
Writing rhymes since the age of eight and rooted in faith since dedicating his life to Christ at fifteen, Son’s music moves between boom-bap hip-hop and spoken word, carrying themes of redemption, community, and conviction. His early independent catalog — the Rising of the Son mixtape series and the digital album KINGDOM — led to his 2023 album Imago Dei, released on LYRICAL, and singles including “Come By Here” and “God Is Good.”
Son joined the Lyrical Opposition family in February 2014 and performed at UNDIVIDED, the organization’s first-ever event. More than a decade later he remains part of its foundation — from the Southern Lights Tour and the CIVPHR video series to Lyrical Legacy, the organization’s 10-year anniversary celebration. He also records alongside O.D. the Wordsmith as the duo IV League, and his #4BarFriday submission was featured on JBL’s official #ListenInColor campaign page.
