RE:March: Rally for Justice | Lyrical Opposition

Lyrical Opposition proudly served as co-organizers of the Re:March: Rally for Justice on June 14, 2020, led by Kirk Davis. Alongside a dedicated planning team—including members of Lyrical Opposition, Emma Chiang, Felix Uribe, Jr., and others—we came together to help bring this powerful day of faith, community, and action to life.

The rally embodied a “Righteous Resistance,” as voices echoed through the streets declaring, “This is what democracy looks like” and “This is what theology looks like.” Rooted in justice, faith, and love for the community, the march called for the church to step out boldly and engage in the public square.

The Poetic Activist, Porsche Veu, along with Samuelu Veu delivered powerful poetic performances on the Mobilize Love mobile stage at Mendell Plaza.

From honoring lives impacted by injustice to uplifting collective voices for change, this moment was a testament to unity, leadership, and the ongoing fight for justice.

"On June 14, 2020, we showed what a Righteous Resistance looks like. We chanted “THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE”and “THIS WHAT THEOLOGY LOOKS LIKE”. As a church we must come out of hiding around issues that affect the neighborhood? Families and people that God loves. Just because I’m unapologetically for Black people doesn’t lessen the light on any other ethnicity. We must celebrate and know that God wants me to bring my full self to Him. God sees all of it and IT IS BEAUTIFUL!! My friend Chi-Ming Chien wrote me the other day about Amos 5:15. In The Message version of the Bible, this verse reads "Hate evil and love good, then work it out in the public square." At its core that faith must work itself out in the marketplace, in the places of decision-making, and in the concrete expressions of our life--in the relationships we nurture and develop, in the educational systems we erect, and in the economies we inhabit. The fullness of justice is the harvest of faith.Just yesterday we marched goes from the mural spot where 26-year-old Mario Woods was fatally shot by police to the Bayview's "public square", to Mendell Plaza. Redeemer Community Church: Can I say that this is the time, in particular, to follow Black church leadership? As many of you know, Kirk Davis is on Rise Prep's staff as community engagement director. He's also a good friend and a trustworthy voice. Hope to see you there!Thank you, to the Kairos Fellowship Familia. Thank to the amazing group of men and women who gave of there week to make this happen. Thank you to all the churches that came. Thank you to all the Pastors who came and risked there reputations of seeming to be to radical. Thank you to all the supporters of this fight for justice. Thank you to all who trying to figure it out. Thank to Rev. Ben McBride and Rev. Michael McBride for your guidance in this day. Thank you to Shamann Walton who has a tough to love this D10 neighborhood and represent all the people well but can’t take off his blackness and deal with this present issue. To all who represented on the mic thank you. For all those who wanted to be there but COVID crisis kept you sheltered in place, Thank you. #ReMarch”

#WeAreBayview Oakland, Stockton, Sacramento, Antioch, Hayward, Pittsburg, Fairfield, Vallejo, Vacaville, Union City, Richmond, San Pablo and so many other places. Stand up! All these communities have people from Bayview in them now because they couldn’t afford it anymore. Let’s march together.
