Boogie Down Brisbane: A Hip-Hop Benefit Concert

The first Boogie Down Brisbane brought hip-hop, art, and community together at Brisbane Community Park on March 21, 2026. Lyrical Opposition joined Kapwa Kultural Center and Rock The School Bells to organize the free, family-friendly benefit supporting community programming.

A gathering with a purpose.

The organizers invited people of all ages to connect through music and culture while raising awareness and funds for the three nonprofit organizations. The announced program featured Indigenous Cats and The Osada 3 alongside local and regional performers, DJs, dance, community vendors, food, and activities for youth and families.

Hip-hop across generations.

The City of Brisbane’s recap describes an afternoon of dance, rap, spoken word, live DJs, youth activities, and local vendors. Indigenous Cats and The Osada 3 performed alongside Bay Area talent, bringing different voices and generations into the same public space.

In their invitation, Indigenous Cats framed the gathering as a celebration of hip-hop’s four elements. The creative program extended beyond the stage: Nate1 announced an all-ages art battle, with prize packs from New Skool. Nate1Design also created the original event flyer.

From the crowd into the cypher.

The open cypher gave people a way to take part beyond watching the stage. In his recap, @eatlikeabossman thanked Fego Navarro for inviting him out of the crowd to rap, MC/DJ Preach for the introduction, and Lyrical Opposition for recording the moment. He described returning to the mic after years away and reconnecting with his love of the music.

Palosant0’s community recap also highlighted the open cypher and performances by Indigenous Cats and The Osada 3. The organizers shared a separate clip of The Osada 3’s live, DJ-mix-style set, including a homage to Souls of Mischief. Another attendee reel spotlighted @funkle_chaz at the gathering, adding a personal view of the afternoon’s dance and community energy.

It takes a village.

In our May 4 recap, we thanked the community members, organizations, and artist collectives who helped bring the gathering to life. The planning committee included Kapwa Kultural Center, Lyrical Opposition, Rock The School Bells, Raising Ancestors, New Skool, Nate1Design, The Whipt Baker, and MC/DJ Preach.

The vendor village brought together makers, food businesses, artists, and community organizations. Among those thanked were Daly City Youth Health Center, Atelier for Healing, Tanggol Migrante Movement, Legal Aid Society of San Mateo County, and Everyday People Club.
