Bspokeit the Poet

Spoken Word Poet

Atlanta, Georgia

Spoken word poet and writer from Atlanta, Georgia, one of the first five poets announced with Lyrical Opposition, and its former Artistic Director.

Bspokeit the Poet is Brittany Williams, a spoken word poet and writer from Atlanta, Georgia. Her roots come from a British-Jamaican mother and a West Indian father; she was born in Colorado and raised in Atlanta. She earned a degree in landscape architecture and environmental design before her path landed her in San Francisco, where she was introduced to Lyrical Opposition at a Valentine's Day open mic.

She joined Lyrical Opposition on December 12, 2015, and the next day it announced her as one of its five Winter 2015 roster inductees, its first class of poets, alongside Cheddy Uluave, Jermaine Hughes, June Elizabeth Banks and BxCause. She became one of its most active poets, performing and hosting at Paradigm Rhymes, UNDIVIDED 8 and 9, 7 Last Poems, church gatherings and community showcases across the Bay Area.

Her work for Lyrical Opposition went beyond the stage. Its 2016 website listed her as Artistic Director, Poet and Writer; she served on its admin and core teams; and she took part in the initial conversations that developed into Re-Entrification. In her own words: designer by day, storyteller by night, freedom fighter all the time.
