Lyrical Vinyl is temporarily based at The Shops at Tanforan, with pop-up events and a self-service record store inside Atelier for Healing’s showroom.
During the showroom’s business hours, browse the categorized record bins, scan the QR codes, and complete your purchase before taking your records home. The smart store operates without a dedicated cashier.

Lyrical Opposition has joined Mercy Housing and The Hub, Sunnydale’s retail village corridor. Our forthcoming permanent Lyrical Vinyl location is at 1557 Sunnydale Avenue, San Francisco.
We’re looking forward to welcoming you there. An opening date has not yet been announced.

Much of Lyrical Vinyl’s inventory has come from in-kind donations, alongside wholesale purchases and other sources. Records become resources when people put them back into circulation.
People contribute physical media: a record, a box, a collection.
Playable, sellable media finds another listener and another home.
Music helps make room for artist opportunities, gatherings, storytelling, and sometimes new artwork.
Revenue supports artist compensation, community programming, and the people and infrastructure that keep the work moving.

Give physical media
Neighbors walked into the Brisbane store with records. Businesses contributed. Supporters sent boxes and collections, sometimes from overseas. Those gifts became a substantial part of Lyrical Vinyl.

A collection to build together
Bay Area music deserves to be preserved, discoverable, and physically present.
Our long-term vision includes local records, CDs, cassettes, independent releases, flyers, posters, zines, photography, music publications, artist merchandise, oral histories, and other music ephemera.
Some donated material carries cultural value beyond resale. We’re shaping this growing collection and welcoming conversations about what should be preserved. It is a developing vision, not a comprehensive formal archive.

A record may begin as something to listen to. Later, it may become something to look at.
When appropriate, damaged or unsellable media can be shared with LO artists, local artists, and artists connected with Atelier for Healing for painting, sculpture, gallery installations, exhibits, and other visual-art projects.
Not every record can be reused. Where there is a fit, we look for ways to keep its creative life moving.
03 / Music + memory
A record holds more than sound. It carries the work of an artist, the traces of a scene, and something of the place that made it possible.
That attention to music and memory connects with Lyrical Opposition’s wider work documenting culture and the communities that shape it.

Knowledge was shared. Records were shared. People showed up. Lyrical Vinyl grew by turning those contributions back toward artists and community.
01 / Seed
Mighty Delrokz of The Stacks Record Shop in Hayward helped guide LO through developing a record shop. His mentorship, knowledge sharing, and discounted wholesale inventory helped seed the first collection.
The support was more than a transaction. It was someone sharing what they had learned, so another cultural space could begin.
In Joy Ng’s interview, Mighty Delrokz recalls learning the record-store business at Rooky Ricardo’s Records in San Francisco before creating The Stacks. That earlier experience adds context to the knowledge he later shared with Lyrical Vinyl.
This is a story of people passing on experience, not a formal organizational lineage or a direct mentorship between Rooky Ricardo’s and LO.

The first boxes arrived in time for the Friends of the Brisbane Library City-Wide Yard Sale. Early signs, record crates, and pop-ups gave the idea a way to meet its community.
03 / Open
At 132 Visitacion Avenue in Brisbane, the idea became a physical place. A September 2023 pop-up and community mixer, hosted by the Brisbane Chamber of Commerce, marked Lyrical Vinyl’s arrival.

Some people brought a record. Others brought boxes. Cutright Barbershop contributed records and cassettes. Robin Espinosa donated records and custom posters. Neighbors like Ron added to the collection, and The Stacks continued helping it grow.
Walk-ins, business donations, and packages from supporters near and far made physical media a shared resource.
05 / Gather
Poetry, acoustic music, touring artists, film activity, and Lyrical Assembly brought different kinds of creative exchange into the shop.
06 / Travel
From Brisbane Day in the Park to brunch pop-ups with Sweet Heart at Forage Kitchen in Oakland, the records kept moving. Yard sales, DJ pop-ups, and Serramonte Art + Lit Fest extended the experience beyond one room.
07 / Reimagine
The model continues through pop-ups, Atelier for Healing at Tanforan, the forthcoming Sunnydale home, and the developing Bay Area Collection. A physical destination and a mobile cultural experience.
132 Visitacion Avenue remains connected to LO as office space, recording-studio infrastructure, and a mailing address. The left side is now operated by LO’s friend Theya through Thema Studios, a social-media marketing boutique.
It is no longer the Lyrical Vinyl retail store.

Artists need income, audiences, space, distribution, creative opportunities, relationships, and infrastructure.
Lyrical Vinyl has contributed through artist compensation, performances, community programming, physical music, and creative opportunities. Its wider vision includes supplemental work for artists between gigs. Future arrangements for carrying releases, consignment, and artist merchandise will be discussed individually.

Lyrical Vinyl is an artist-support and earned-income venture of Lyrical Opposition. Revenue helps sustain artist compensation, community programming, creative opportunities, and the staffing, operations, and infrastructure that make this charitable work possible.
Community contributions keep this model moving: physical media circulates, resources are reinvested, and artists and neighbors create together. Vinyl complements LO’s four core programs.
